The Barn at Big Bear Lake
Big Bear Lake, CA
The Barn at Big Bear Lake is a proposed 7,200-square-foot, two-story wedding reception venue and event center designed to serve as a premier hospitality destination within the Big Bear Lake community. The project was envisioned as a rustic yet refined banquet and gathering space tailored for weddings, private events, and year-round entertainment functions.
The development involved a complex entitlement and planning process that included the merger of multiple parcels, including the conversion of one residentially zoned property to commercial use. Our team worked closely with City staff throughout the approval process, successfully navigating Development Review and Planning Commission approvals for a Conditional Use Permit (CUP), Environmental Review, Lot Merger with Zone Change, and General Plan Amendment.
Following City approval, our office completed the architectural construction documents and provided in-house structural engineering services for the project, including coordination with civil and MEP consultants.
This project highlights our experience managing entitlement-heavy developments and coordinating complex municipal approvals for hospitality and commercial projects.

Acacia Drive
Cypress, CA
A Japanese-Inspired Interior Residence
This custom residence combines a Contemporary California exterior with an interior inspired by traditional Japanese architectural principles, creating a unique fusion of modern living and timeless design traditions.
While the home's exterior expresses a clean, contemporary California aesthetic through simple roof forms, expansive glazing, and a restrained material palette, the interior draws heavily from Japanese concepts of craftsmanship, balance, and connection to nature.
The home features a Genkan, a traditional Japanese entry sequence that serves as a transitional space between the exterior and interior, creating a deliberate sense of arrival.
A dedicated Japanese-inspired room incorporates a tatami-based floor layout, utilizing a 3' x 6' module derived from traditional tatami mat proportions. Within this space, a Tokonoma display alcove provides a focal point for artwork, calligraphy, floral arrangements, or seasonal decorative pieces, while integrated Tana shelving offers functional storage and display rooted in traditional Japanese design.
At the heart of the home, an expansive great room features exposed wood beams and a vaulted ceiling influenced by traditional Japanese timber construction. Large walls of glass open directly to an Engawa, a covered veranda that serves as a transitional space between the home and the surrounding landscape, blurring the distinction between indoor and outdoor living.
On the ground floor, a Furo-inspired bathing room draws from the Japanese tradition of immersive soaking and relaxation. The bathing space opens directly to the Engawa and adjacent lap pool, creating a tranquil retreat that emphasizes wellness, contemplation, and a seamless connection to nature.
The result is a residence that pairs the clean lines and openness of Contemporary California architecture with the spatial qualities and cultural traditions of Japanese design, creating an environment focused on simplicity, tranquility, and a deep connection to place.

Lynn Road Cabins Development
Big Bear Lake, CA
Lynn Road Cabins was conceived as a refined, cabin-inspired hospitality development, blending the charm of individual dwellings with the operational efficiency of a boutique hotel. The project consisted of a series of single-unit cabins designed for short-term rental use, carefully arranged to create a cohesive, resort-like environment.
We collaborated extensively with the City working towards securing development approvals through the entitlement process. Although the project was not constructed, it demonstrates our expertise in navigating complex approvals and shaping thoughtful, hospitality-driven communities.
