Bio

Brad MacArthur grew up just outside of Boston, Massachusetts, where his interest in architecture began in the 10th grade with a drafting class. He was drawn to the simplicity and precision of hand drafting—working with pencil, ruler, T-square, and protractor—which led him to pursue additional architectural coursework throughout high school. This early exposure sparked a lasting passion for design and a desire to thoughtfully connect the built environment with its natural surroundings.

Brad attended Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston from 1998 to 2001, earning a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering Technology. During and after his college years, he gained diverse experience in facilities engineering with The Gillette Company and in store planning with The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company. He also worked with several residential design firms throughout Massachusetts, many of them small, studio-based practices located in rural settings—an environment that would later influence his own professional aspirations.

In 2005, Brad relocated to Redondo Beach, California, where he joined a number of architectural firms in the Los Angeles area. Notably, he spent seven years with Stephen Woolley and Associates, where he developed a strong technical foundation while working on complex aerospace and technology-driven projects for clients such as Boeing and Northrop Grumman. His work included laboratories, clean rooms, high-bay satellite facilities, and corporate offices. During this time, Brad also pursued architectural licensure in California under the mentorship of Stephen Woolley, whose guidance played a significant role in his professional development.

In 2014, Brad moved to Big Bear Lake, California, where he established his own architectural practice. Drawn to the mountain lifestyle and natural beauty of the area, he focused on designing custom homes and small commercial projects throughout the Bear Valley region. Over time, his work expanded throughout Southern California, including recent involvement in residential fire-rebuild projects in Pacific Palisades, where he has been assisting homeowners in navigating the rebuilding process and restoring their homes and communities.

In 2022, Brad relocated to Bishop, California, where he continues his practice while expanding his work into communities throughout the Eastern Sierra, while maintaining active projects in Southern California. Deeply inspired by these diverse landscapes—from coastal neighborhoods to alpine environments—he remains committed to creating thoughtful, site-responsive architecture that enhances both the built and natural environments.

Outside of his professional work, Brad enjoys an active outdoor lifestyle, including rock climbing, hiking, mountain biking, snowboarding, and backcountry splitboarding.
